The president and treasurer of Nelson & Hagy Inc. experienced chest and arm pain and was rushed to JFK Medical Center in Palm Springs where he passed away at 2:30 a.m. due to a heart attack. He was 41.

Boswell and business partner Lyle Trent took over operations of Nelson & Hagy in August 1998. Trent, the company's vice president and secretary, had known Boswell for nearly 15 years.

"From a business standpoint is how I knew him," Trent said. "He was a great person. But we mostly just conducted business. That was about all, unfortunately."

Trent said Boswell was an avid golfer who had a lot of success playing the game.

"He won a lot at golf," he said. "He was very good."

Longtime friend Dennis Hansen first met Boswell while golfing at Red Carpet Golf Club, formerly known as Porky's. The two also played hockey for the Junior Hawks as boys and often went on family ski trips.

"I've known him since I was a little boy, since maybe I was 5 or 6," said the president of First Security State Bank. "Our dads played at Porky's. They started on the front nine and a group of us boys would tee off on the back nine."

Boswell regularly competed in local golf tournaments.

He won the 2000 Katoski Memorial Golf Tournament with a pulled muscle in his right arm, and often competed with some of the state's best golfers in the Waterloo Open.

"He usually won the money when we played," Hansen said. "He was fun to play with. He was a lot of fun and we always gave each other a hard time on the course. I'm gonna miss that."

Among survivors is a son, Nick.
